The Olympic flame kept burning as it arrived in Sochi, the host of the 2014 Winter Olympics.

To the cheering of the crowd, the torchbearers arrived on stage and used the opportunity to preserve the sacred flame, which started its journey in Moscow on October 7, 2013, by transferring it to the safety of a miner's lamp. The Olympic torch was officially lit during a ceremony at the site of ancient Olympia in Greece.

Fans also took the opportunity to take photos with the official Sochi 2014 Olympic mascots - the Polar Bear, the Hare and the Leopard.

The Olympic torch finally arrives in Sochi following the longest journey in the history of the games. The 40,000 mile route took the torch to the North Pole, went atop Europe's highest mountain, Mount Elbrus, and even went, unlit, into space.

One of the 14,000 torchbearers, Vadim Gorbenko, died after carrying the flame in December 2013.
