North Sea Oil Leak May Be Contained

LONDON (AP) -- Royal Dutch Shell PLC says an oil leak from a flow
line at one of its drilling platforms in the North Sea off the
coast of Scotland is under control.

The leak was first reported late Friday. The company says that
oil leakage has been considerably reduced since the underwater well
was shut in and the line at the Gannet Alpha platform is being
de-pressurized.

Shell did not say how much oil had been released but added in a
statement that it expects the sheen to disperse naturally through
wave action and not reach the shore.

Gannet is 110 miles (180 kilometers) east of Aberdeen, Scotland.

Shell said it has a remote-controlled vehicle running inspection
checks and monitoring the sub-sea leak.
