With the help of researchers from Tokyo University, a nearly two-inch-tall hello kitty figure is currently aboard a satellite, looking through a window at earth.

The mouthless cat is also beaming messages back to earth in a bid to promote Japan’s high-tech industry.

Sanrio, the company that owns hello kitty, has asked fans to submit 180 character messages that she can deliver from space to friends and family.

The company said they have received hundreds of messages in both Japanese and English.

Hello kitty, Sanrio's most popular character, celebrates its 40th anniversary this year.
