It was no easy task for the police officers who tried to catch dozens of piglets fleeing on a busy highway in China after the truck carrying them overturned, state media reported on Saturday (August 3).

The piglets' breakout occurred in Guiyang province in south-west China on Thursday (August 1), state television CCTV reported.

Police officers placed cones on the highway to stop traffic before taking up the chase.

They cornered the animals, chased after them, but only very occasionally managed to grab one.

After about one hour in pursuit, the agile animals took shelter in the shade under a rescue truck, said CCTV.

The policemen pulled the piglets out one by one from under the truck, it added.
