HAVANA (AP) -- Cuban state television has announced that a court will consider an appeal by imprisoned U.S. contractor Alan Gross on July 22.
An official message read on the afternoon newscast says authorities informed Gross, his Cuban lawyer and the U.S. Interests Section earlier Thursday.
Gross was working on a USAID-funded democracy building program when he was arrested in December 2009.
Cuba considers such programs to be aimed at undermining the government, and calls Gross a spy.
In March he was sentenced to 15 years after being convicted of illegally importing communications equipment.
