China: Early Spring Snow Covers Tree Blossoms

Snow on the ground was as thick as ten centimeters (almost 4 inches) in Khorgos, China Tuesday. The temperature also dropped to minus two degree Celsius (about 28 degrees Fahrenheit).

The snow came as apricot and pear trees are in blossom. Pedestrians were attracted by the beautiful scenes, stopping to look and have their pictures taken.

It is the first time I have seen such a snow scene in spring, and it's really beautiful," said Shi Xiaoyun, a resident.

However, experts say the snow may pose negative impacts on forestry and fruit growing in spring.

Since apricot trees are in full blossom, the snow may hugely reduce the apricot yields, said Ma Zhide of the city's meteorological bureau.
