Prince William impressed spectators with his polo skills, leading his
team to victory in a match at the Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet
It was a rare, unscripted event in a heavily choreographed first trip for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, as newlyweds, to the United States.
William starred for his team, scoring four goals.
The crowd rushed onto the field at the end of the match despite an announcer's plea for them to return their seats. Security personnel used a line of rope to contain people.
After decorum was restored, William's wife, the former Kate Middleton, presented each competitor a blue Tiffany & Co. box with
a white ribbon, and a big silver trophy to her husband's team.
The last player to the podium was William. When the crowd
yelled, "Kiss!," Kate obliged and gave him a slight embrace and a
kiss on each cheek.
Saturday night, the couple was to attend a black-tie event organized by
the British Academy of Film and Television Arts.
