VILLERS-AU-TERTRE, France (AP) - French police are escorting a
couple to a court hearing after the corpses of eight newborn babies
were found on their property in a town in northern France.
A judicial official says the couple, in their mid-40s, are the parents of the dead babies. The corpses were found on two different parts of their property in Villers-au-Tertre, not far from the city of Lille.
The couple are to appear before a French investigative magistrate Thursday. Police have sealed the doors, gate and windows of the house where the remains of some of the babies were discovered.
France has seen a string of cases in recent years of mothers killing their newborns and saving and hiding the corpses.
