XINING, China (AP) - Official Chinese media says at least 66 students and 10 teachers are among the more than 600 known victims of Wednesday's earthquake.
About 70 percent of schools in the region, in mountainous Tibet, are said to have collapsed. Local officials say 85 percent of buildings were destroyed by the quake, which had a magnitude of 6.9.
Meanwhile, rescue crews and heavy equipment are flowing into the area to continue the search for survivors. State media says hundreds have been pulled from the rubble alive. Injuries top 9,000.
Survivors, who are now living outdoors, are dealing with aftershocks, limited supplies, and temperatures that dip below freezing at night. One man says it "feels like a war zone."
