PARIS (AP) - French officials say a fire in a building housing
immigrant workers has killed seven people, including two who jumped from windows.

About 90 other people were injured, and 11 of them are in life-threatening condition.

The prosecutor's office has asked judicial police to investigate
the cause of the fire in the eastern city of Dijon (dee-ZHOHN').

Initial findings suggest it started in a garbage area beside the
building.

The office of Immigration and Integration says most of the
victims were killed by toxic fumes.

The state-subsidized building housed single foreign workers and families, mostly from sub-Saharan Africa.
