Typhoon Matmo made landfall in eastern Taiwan Wednesday, causing damage to homes and property.
The powerful typhoon packed sustained winds of 85 miles-per-hour, bringing heavy winds and rain to central and northern Taiwan.
Torrential rain, exceeding eight inches over 24 hours, has been forecast for almost the entire island.
Some areas of the country are mountainous and prone to mudslides.
Matmo is forecast to cross Taiwan before hitting mainland China later in the day.
