DOTHAN, AL -- Two people have been arrested in Dothan for promoting prison contraband. 19-year-old Jazmin Renae Cody admitted to police she brought cigarettes, smokeless tobacco and a lighter to the Houston County jail.
Investigators say Cody conspired with inmate Jason Townes on February 21st to bring in the contraband. Police report Cody brought the contraband to the Houston County Jail and concealed it with the intent to have a trustee recover it and transport it into a secure area of the jail.
Police detained Cody at that time, and she later confessed to her involvement in the crime. She has been charged with third degree promoting prison contraband. Cody has been released on $300 bond.
Jason Emmanuel Townes has also been arrested and charged with one count of third degree promoting prison contraband. He also faces a third degree charge for conspiring to promote prison contraband. Each of those charges has a $3,000 bond and he remains in the Houston County Jail on those and other unrelated drug charges.
