Twinkie Festival Celebrates Return of Popular Snack Cake

People in Emporia, Kansas are so excited about the return of the tasty treat, they celebrated its comeback with a festival Monday.

A Twinkies eating contest was part of the fun. Twinkies lovers could also enjoy a deep fried version of the golden sponge cake.

Twinkies are now smaller than before, and are made with a slightly new recipe.

They also last longer, with a shelf life of 45 days. That’s almost three weeks longer than the original Twinkie.

Twinkies were off the shelves for eight months.

They’re back after Hostess Brands agreed to a 410 million dollar deal that will add a few hundred jobs to the Midwestern town.

After Hostess declared bankruptcy in January of 2012, they shut down- costing more than 500 Emporia area workers their jobs.
