TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - Crews are making final preparations to demolish one of the oldest buildings on the University of Alabama campus to make way for a new outdoor plaza.

The Tuscaloosa News reports that demolition of the Kilgore House is planned for Tuesday. The Queen Anne-style home has stood in Tuscaloosa since 1890. View the full article here; http://bit.ly/12rwVhR.

One Monday, preservationists combed through the house trying to save some architectural elements.

Officials want to use the land for a new plaza with an outdoor dining pavilion.

A potential purchaser who might have moved the old home to a new site backed out of talks over the cost.

Kilgore House was listed on the Alabama Register of Historic Places in 1988. The building was the Alabama Heritage magazine office for 25 years until last summer.
