Workers and Festival Goers Prepare for Toadlick

Dothan, AL - You could call Jim Malloch a music festival regular.

"I've camped from coast to coast. I'm an Alabama boy. I always like to come back to my roots," said Malloch of Myrtle Beach as he set up his camp site Wednesday morning.

Thousands of other people will join him in Dothan for the second annual Toadlick Music Festival. Festival leaders say they've sold seven times as many tickets this year than last.

"We've heard most all the hotels are sold out. We're going to put 40,000 people in the city of Dothan for three days and that's amazing," said Toadlick President Chris Gilbert.

Workers have been busy preparing the stage for twenty acts, like ACM Entertainer of the Year Luke Bryan, Kellie Pickler, and Lynard Skynard.
Part of that set up includes 14 feet tall video monitors that will assure festival goers there's not a bad seat in the house.

"People when you come here and you're sitting way in the back you can see very well with the video walls," said Jimmy Jay, Jayson Productions.

That's what first-time festival goers, Joe Murcphy and Margaret McLeod of Biloxi, Mississippi, are hoping.

"Have a wonderful, great time. A lot of food, a lot of drinks, a lot of entertainment. Just having fun hanging out with friends and family. And meeting new people," said McLeod.

But festival veteran Malloch gave some advice for you new comers.

He said, "Take it slow. Don't stay out in the sun too much. Have yourself a straw hat and stay hydrated. Don't be stupid. Don't drink too much. Just have a good time."

The festival kicks off Thursday night at the National Peanut Festival Fairgrounds.

You are allowed to bring a collapsible cooler this year with food and drinks, including alcohol, but leave the glass bottles at home. Those aren't allowed.
