This Generation of Americans Spend Less Time Working

Americans have a lot more free time than a generation ago. That's according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

In 1965, Americans reported having just under 35 hours a week of leisure time. That's also about when the average work week was over 38 hours.

By 2012, Americans were spending nearly 42 hours doing whatever they wanted, and just under 34 hours working.

A big reason for the changes? The growth in part-time jobs.

And according to the study, modern technology has helped cut out the amount of time we spend on housework and cooking.
