It was the third movie in a popular franchise and would be the last for at least twenty years.
After the success of the first two live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies in 1990 and 1991, a third one was released on March 19th, 1993.
This film was simply called Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III. Instead of battling an established villain like Shredder, the film took the turtles back in time to Japan hundreds of years in the past.
Despite opening at #1 on its release weekend, a majority of fans and critics consider Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III to be the weakest of the three live-action films.
However, the franchise has continued in comic books, animated series, and a new live-action film is on the way to be produced by Transformers director Michael Bay.
