Suspect Attacks Pasco County Deputy

LAND O'LAKES, Fla. (AP) -- A man under arrest for domestic violence managed to get his handcuffs around to his front and started kicking out the windows of a Pasco County Sheriff's patrol car as he was being taken to jail.

The deputy pulled into a convenience store parking lot early Friday and as he was parking the vehicle, 33-year-old Osvaldo Flores started climbing out of the vehicle and charged him.

Sheriff's officials say the deputy tried to subdue the suspect but the man got his handcuffs around the deputy's neck.

A witness jumped in to assist the deputy.

They were able to fend off a further attack.

Flores now faces a number of charges, including attempted murder of a law enforcement officer and escape.

The officer received lacerations and cuts to the face.
