St. Luke's Powers Past Geneva County at South Regional Tournament

The St. Luke's Girls Basketball Team had one goal entering Wednesday's 1A Regional Semifinal game against Geneva County. The Wildcats wanted to limit Bulldogs star guard to 10 points, well below her season average.

Although St. Luke's didn't reach it's goal, the Wildcats came close, holding Stafford to 11 points in a 53-29 victory. With the win, St. Luke's advances to the 1A Regional Final on Saturday against Brantley.

St. Luke's hounded Stafford for most of the game, and the Bulldogs freshman star eventually left with an eye injury late in the third quarter. The Wildcats defense shone against Geneva County, holding the Bulldogs to 25 percent shooting on the night.

Despite the strong defensive effort, the Bulldogs trailed just 24-20 at halftime, thanks to quality free throw shooting, Geneva County hit 10-of-14 free throws to trail by just four at the break.

Things changed dramatically in the third quarter, as St. Luke's outscored Geneva County 16-2 to put the game out of reach. Ashley Chapman led three Wildcats in double figures with 16 points.

Geneva County ends the year with a 24-4 record. And, the future is bright for the Bulldogs, who graduate just one player from this year's regional squad.
