Despite the occasional traffic jams around the circle, business owners say, spring break brings good news.
Dobbs barbeque has been located off 231 south for more than one-hundred years.
And it’s perfect spot for spring breakers to stop on their way down to the beaches.
“During the spring break our best hours are Friday Saturday and Sunday because it’s a weekend you know.” Dobbs Barbeque owner Lee Dobbs said.
And it’s not just Dobb’s that's doing well.
“But they do stop here to pump gas, maybe do a little bit of shopping and also maybe have lunch or dinner and also with our gas prices being about 15 cents or lower than the Florida price, its great place to gas up.” Convention and visitors bureau Director Bob Hendrix said.
Hendrix says hotels in Dothan are probably the only businesses that don't reap the benefits of spring breakers.
“For the spring breakers when they get this close to the beach, about an hour and a half away, it’s like they can almost smell the salt air and so they keep on going on down to the beach.” Hendrix said.
Hendrix says hotel owners aren't too worried, because in just a few weeks they'll be filling up.
“We have a couple of other events such as the woman’s professional tournament coming up and several softball baseball tournaments coming up. Those help to subsidize our occupancy on the weekends.” Hendrix said.
Which will once again bring people out to restaurants like Dobb’s.
“We can always tell when the weather gets better and gets close to the summer our business gets better.” Dobbs said.
