Kenneth Conrad is giving blood.
Conrad said, “My mother has occasionally. Her blood count gets low, because she's going through chemo. So occasionally, they have to give her blood to keep her numbers up.”
But numbers aren't up anywhere else. Around the holidays, South Alabama District Director Sharon Carpenter says they dip.
Carpenter said, “On average, we need 250 donors in the Dothan area and we have seen a lot less than that. We're averaging 150 donors at week.”
That average won't cut it and Carpenter knows snow will hit those numbers hard.
Carpenter said, “The bad weather that started yesterday and is also going through today is certainly affecting Lifesouth's blood supply. Up north, north Alabama, Huntsville and Birmingham, we had to cancel blood drives due to the snow.
But Conrad says he's getting out anyways.
Conrad said, “Makes you feel good to return the cycle of life. You never know when you may need a pint of blood.”
