MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) -- Alabama Board of Education member Mary Scott Hunter said she's considering entering the Republican race for governor against incumbent Robert Bentley.
The 40-year-old Huntsville lawyer said she's been encouraged to consider the race by people from many different walks of life, and she plans to decide by the end of summer.
Hunter acknowledges she's not well known outside the five counties in her north Alabama school district. But building name recognition might not be a problem considering her middle and last names. Her father, Scott Hunter, was a quarterback at the University of Alabama and in the National Football League.
Hunter is an Air Force veteran who was elected to the state school board in 2010.
