"In our local area, we've had 11 armed robberies, that we believe to be related. All of these armed robberies have been very violent in nature, we believe this is an organized group that is conducting these robberies" says Andy Hughes, Houston County Sheriff.

And the suspects seem to have a plan.

"Once the establishment is closed, they wait for them to lock up and then they fire a shot thru the glass door. They then gain entry into the establishment and confront the employees inside, demanding cash".

The robberies have ranged from southeast Alabama to southwest Georgia.

"The armed robbery the Houston county sheriff's office responded to Saturday night in the Pansey area, the owner of the store actively engaged the armed robbers in a gun fight , he fired a shot, they fired a couple of shots then they retreated from the store," says Hughes.

"This armed robbery occurred probably just 30 minutes to an hour after the cedar springs armed robbery occurred in early county Georgia. So these individuals are very brazen, they are very bold and they have no regard what so ever for human life. Most people don't pull 2 armed robberies within an hour of each other in the same general vicinity ".

"After arrival they found out that apparently at least 1 gunman came from around the side of the store, fired a shot and then actually assaulted one of the employees, end up firing another shot which struck a second employee in the back, that employee was transported to the medical center in Dothan and was treated and released the same night. While she certainly shaken up, they weren't critical injuries," says Will Caudill Chief Investigator at the Early County Sheriff Office.

"People who own businesses who close late in the night, these robberies are occurring between 8:30 until around 11pm or so should be very concerned, patrons of these stores should be very concerned, the store owners, the employees who are working in these stores should be very concerned".

"In my whole 27 years of law enforcement, these are the most dangerous serial robbers I've seen in my whole career," says Hughes.

Police are working around the clock following several leads

Sheriff Hughes says at this time, there are 2 suspects but possibly more.
He also says they are very violent.
