Preservation Measures at Coheelee Creek Bridge Will Make it Impassable

An update on the historic Coheelee Creek Bridge outside Blakely- the Early County board of commissioners has made plans to cover grafitti on the interior with an opaque finish.

They will also replace the broken boards on the bridge. The dumpsters are now gone from the site.
Those are all big improvements, but visitors from out of town may soon find another surprise-:they won't be able to get across anymore.

"We have hired an engineer to do drawings to enclose the ends of that bridge," said County Commission Chair June Merrit. "You'll be able to see into the bridge but you just won't be able to walk into the bridge. It'll have steel across each end and at one end it'll have a gate."

The updates are expected in early 2014.
