In Houston County, a scary situation on the river ends well.

Just after midnight Monday, a husband reported his wife missing on the Chattahoochee River near the Gordon boat landing.

Police say their boat had stopped working.

That's when 45 year old Linda Cherry tried to swim to shore wearing a life jacket but with the strong current and low visibility, Cherry became lost.

Multiple rescue units from Houston County including the Regional Land and Water Rescue and air support from Dale County responded.

The helicopter was able to spot Cherry, and that led to her rescue.

Capt Antonio Gonzalez of the Houston County Sheriff's Office explains, “It's a bad situation that ended up good for us. Again, getting out of that boat... it's the safest place to be. Even if you are stranded. But getting out of the boat is the number one thing you do not want to do.”

She was in the water for about an hour and a half.

Officials say she was found in good condition.
