The Alabama Department of Public Health is temporarily closing oyster beds in Mobile and Baldwin County.

Health officials say recent heavy rainfall may have led to bacterial contamination of oyster beds. Impacted waterways include Cedar Point, Portersville Bay, Grand Bay, Heron Bay, Dauphin Island and Bon Secour Bay.

Harvesting will resume once the areas meet acceptable bacteriological testing criteria.
