UPDATE: 10/09013 5:34 p.m.

It’s day nine of the partial government shutdown, and we're only eight days away from the US defaulting on its debt.

House Republicans and the President are still locked in a stalemate.

Danielle Nottingham explains those caught in the middle; family members of those who have paid the ultimate price for our country.

UPDATE: 10/08/13 5:00 p.m.

With no deal in sight on the government shutdown, President Obama and Congress are heading toward another deadline, raising the debt limit.

The President is sticking to his pledge to not negotiate with either a temporary spending bill, or the debt limit. House Republicans say they won't pass bills without negotiations.

Danielle Nottingham reports from Capitol Hill.

We're one week into the government shutdown.

But while hundreds of thousands of federal employees are still out of work, Congress shifts its attention to a more pressing deadline, the Debt Ceiling.

House speaker John Boehner says Republicans will only approve bills to re-open the government, and raise the country's debt limit, if Democrats agree to changes in the Affordable Care Act.

Democrats say the 218 votes needed to pass the bill in the House are there, but say Speaker Boehner won't bring it up for a vote.

If Congress can't reach a deal next week, the nation could default on its debt for the first time in American history.
