No Bond for Cowarts Shooting Suspect

DOTHAN, AL - A Houston County man charged with capital murder in the shooting death of his stepfather has been ordered held without bond.

40-year-old Michael Allen Tharp was captured Friday in Baldwin County.

He had been on the run since 68-year-old Joseph Bernard Hendley was gunned down in his home in Cowarts Wednesday night.

Prosecutors contend Tharp also stole the victim's pick-up truck and a gun.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Kevin Moulton, and Tharp will be represented by a court-appointed attorney.
