In the past, News 4 has told you how Disney--the new owners of the Star Wars license--are planning many new films in the franchise, starting with Episode Seven in 2015.

Monday, Disney and Lucasfilm announced a new animated TV series is also being made, and will cover a part of Star Wars lore never before seen on screen, until now.

Star Wars: Rebels will premiere in the fall of 2014 on the Disney Channel, followed by future Episodes on the Disney XD network.

Instead of being between the prequel films like the critically-acclaimed Clone Wars series was, "Rebels" will be set between the end of the prequel trilogy and the start of "A New Hope."

Additional details are being kept under wraps at this point, but the premiere will be written by Simon Kinberg, who wrote X-men: First Class and the Sherlock Holmes re-make.
