A new Pokemon animated special was recently announced in Japan, based on the original games that started the phenomenon.

Recently announced on a Pokemon show in Japan, a special called “The Origin” will air in the home country of Pokemon (or Pocket Monsters as it is known overseas). “The Origin” shows the original characters from the debut Game Boy releases of the franchise: Red, Green, and Blue.

Footage from the special, which airs in Japan in October shows Pokemon from the “Classic 150” including Charmander, Geodude and Blastoise, along with the character Brock.

A US air date or dub of the special has yet to be announced at this time.

Meanwhile, the 18th season of the mainline Pokemon anime will be based on the upcoming Pokemon X and Y games for the Nintendo 3DS.

In the Pokemon games, the player controls a Pokemon trainer who ventures through a world, capturing and training wild monsters of numerous types. The Pokemon are improved, and in some cases, evolved by battling other wild Pokemon, other trainers, villains, and gym leaders.
