Sixty seconds might not seem like a lot, but when it comes to an earthquake, a one minute notice could save lives.

That's what one California lawmaker says.

State Senator Alex Padilla of Van Nuys introduced legislation Monday for an 80-million-dollar early warning system.

The earthquake warning system would be made up of sensors located throughout the state.

Padilla says it could give people time to take cover, get out of a building or for drivers to pull to the side of the road.
