New Daleville Mayor Works on Economic Development

Daleville, AL - Claudia Wigglesworth isn't wasting any time. She was elected as Daleville's mayor in November and has high hopes for the city.

"I like to say Daleville is a city of possibilities. We have a wide spectrum of opportunities," said Wigglesworth.

While on the city council for the past 4 years, Wigglesworth did realize they were missing the big picture. Now, the city council is working with the Southeast Alabama Regional Planning Commission to create a comprehensive plan to move forward.

This means beautifying the gateway to Fort Rucker, finding money to fund recreational development, and maintaing infrastructure.

Another step to better the city was joining the partnership with the Ozark-Dale County Economic Development Corporation (ODEC).

"It's going to give us an opportunity to really strengthen our relationship with the county. We'll also be able to share resources with the county to accomplish economic development projects," said Wigglesworth.

ODEC Executive Director Eric Basinger said, "I talked to a lot of people that are new to the area, and they genuinely point at Daleville as one of those places in the county that has a high potential of what could happen there. What has already happened is pretty good."

Good things like 3rd generation family owned businesses, promising retail opportunities, and high tech defense contracts. While Wigglesworth knows there will be hurdles to overcome, she thinks they are on the right track.
