Houston Academy students got a peek into the daily life of a National Guard soldier. Staff Sergeants Jason Elson and James Holmes came to Houston Academy Wednesday to teach the second part of a three-day course. It was designed to spark interest in the military by showing students what it entails.

"Today was an opportunity to allow the kids to experience a little bit of what it's like to do military tactics, kind of work closely with some soldiers, and I find that it helps with a lot of misconceptions of the military," said James Holmes, Sergeant.

The students tried on gear and mimicked real-life situations soldiers commonly face. Elson and Holmes are hoping students can consider joining and considering the many career opportunities in the National Guard.
