UPDATE: Midland City Standoff

UPDATE:7:00 P.M.
Police arrest 31-year-old Jonathan Wood of Dothan after the standoff comes to a close.

He faces several charges including domestic violence, possession of marijuana and illegal possession of a firearm.


UPDATE 4:54 P.M.

The suspect has been taken into custody.

UPDATE 2:30 P.M.

Kelly Avenue has been opened back up to traffic. An ambulance has left the scene. However, police have not confirmed if the suspect has been successfully removed from the home.

We'll update with more information as soon as it's available.


UPDATE: 2 p.m.

The houses closest to the house where the police are negotiating have been evacuated.

Dale County School bus routes will be altered for those buses that come through Kelly Avenue.

Parents need to be mindful of these minor changes once school is released today.


Midland City, AL - Police have responded to a standoff in Midland City.

Dale County Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to a home on Kelly Street at about 7:45 Thursday morning. Officials say a man has barricaded himself inside of the home threatening to take his own life.

It is not clear if anyone else is inside of the home.

The road is blocked off for about a mile in both directions.

Police are in the negotiation process, but it's not certain how long that could take.
