Miami's Haitian Community Marks Quake Anniversary

MIAMI (AP) -- Miami's Haitian community is marking the third anniversary of a catastrophic earthquake in their Caribbean homeland.

One survivor of the Jan. 12, 2010, quake that struck Haiti's capital is returning to the Miami hospital that treated his injuries.

Violinist Romel Joseph will perform Friday at Jackson Memorial Hospital.

Joseph was one of 205 Haitians flown for treatment at Jackson after the earthquake.

Meanwhile, U.S. Rep. Frederica Wilson, D-Fla., and more than 20 other local elected officials will meet in North Miami to urge the U.S. government to continue supporting reconstruction efforts in Haiti.

Friday evening, Miami-Dade County officials will host a forum in North Miami to reflect on the quake's lingering effects.

On Saturday, community activists will lead a silent march through Miami's Little Haiti neighborhood before a memorial Mass.
