A Georgia man has pleaded guilty to accepting bribes to allow a thief to steal $1 million worth of equipment from an Albany Marine base.
U.S. Attorney's officials say 67-year-old Shelby Janes, of Albany, pleaded guilty Wednesday to bribery of a public official in the Middle District of Georgia.
Janes, former civilian inventory control manager at a Marine Corps Logistics Base, said he helped an unidentified person steal cranes, bulldozers, front-end loaders and more from the base. The equipment was meant to be repaired or destructed but was resold instead.
Janes told officials the equipment was worth over $1 million, and he received a nearly $100,000 kickback in the scheme.
Janes faces a maximum of 15 years in prison and is ordered to pay restitution to the Department of Defense.
