DOTHAN, AL -- Local residents got the opportunity to spend time meeting those who keep them safe while they sleep.

The National Night Out in Dothan gave people the chance to talk one-on-one with local law enforcement, see demonstrations and even meet the police dog.

Officials said it is the perfect opportunity for residents to see what it is like to be a first responder.

It puts them in the frame that we put on the same pants, same boots as they do and we're actually human just like they are," Cpl. Maurice Eggleston said.

The event was held at the Dothan Civic Center.
This is the 30th year for the National Nigh Out event nationwide and the 8th annual event in Dothan.
