As tensions between Ukraine and Russia reach a boiling point, one Topeka family remains in the middle of it.
Lisa and Don Jenkins are in Ukraine, and were in the process of adopting four children when violent protests erupted.
Don and Lisa Jenkins are told they are one passport away from bringing their four newly adopted children home to Topeka..
The government says the final passport should be ready later this week -- but Don says none are physically in hand yet -- and a military threat from Russia has Ukrainians starting to flee their country.
Speaking via Facetime, Don said the family feels safe where they are in the capital of Kiev. But there are signs their status as Americans could make them a target -- such as a recent walk to the square, where protesters are returning in larger numbers.
Don Jenkins said it would be wonderful if Secretary Kerry could offer assistance to his family with his visit.
The Jenkins are updating their situation at the Facebook page -- get Americans home from the Ukraine.
