MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) -- Incumbent Lt. Gov. Kay Ivey has more campaign money and endorsements than challenger Stan Cooke. But he hopes to close the gaps before the primary election June 3 by attacking her performance as the presiding officer of the Senate.

Cooke, a minister from Kimberly, says Ivey has not done a good job as lieutenant governor and has ignored Senate operating rules. He says Alabama needs a full-time lieutenant governor who's active in job recruitment.

Ivey says she's been part of a new Republican leadership in Montgomery that has reduced the size of state government, brought down the unemployment rate and passed financially sound budgets.

She's been endorsed by several major business groups and raised more than $550,000. Cooke has raised about one-tenth as much.
