FORT RUCKER -- The Department of Defense Education Activity named the Teacher of the Year for the Georgia/Alabama district during a ceremony at the Primary School at Fort Rucker on Wednesday.
First Grade teacher Lynn Irwin received the award. Some of the qualities the panel of judges looked for were that the teacher inspires students, is a 21st century teacher and learner and has the respect and admiration of teachers, students and colleagues.
"It is a wonderful surprise and it is a huge honor. It is such an honor to represent the teachers and the leadership of this school and the district," Irwin said.
Irwin will put together a packet for review at the national level for consideration for the DoDEA Teacher of the Year.
