UPDATE: Alabama Inmate Surrenders After Furlough Violation

UPDATE: 12-17-13 HAMIILTON, Ala. (AP) -- An Alabama inmate is back in custody after failing to return from a brief furlough from custody.

Corrections officials say David Thomas' wife returned him to a prison work-release center in Hamilton on Monday night.

The 42-year-old Thomas failed to return from a furlough on Sunday.

His wife called later and said she was bringing him back. The prisoner surrendered without incident.

Thomas is serving an 18-year sentence on a 2011 drug conviction in Jefferson County.

MONTGOMERY - Inmate David Thomas, AIS# 193796, is considered an escapee from the Hamilton Community Based Facility. All appropriate law enforcement agencies were notified at the time of the escape.

On December 15, 2013, at approximately 6 p.m., Thomas, a community custody inmate, failed to return from an approved 48 hour furlough. Thomas may be driving a gray 2005, Chrysler Pacifica, tag# 47Y28B9.

Thomas is a black male, five feet, four inches tall, weighing 165 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He is sentenced out of Jefferson County on April 18, 2011, and is serving an 18 year sentence for possession of a controlled substance. Thomas’ expiration of sentence date is scheduled for June 20, 2028, with a possible parole date in April, 2015.
