DOTHAN -- As Black Friday Shoppers caught up on sleep, Small Business Saturday buyers explored the crafts of local businesses.
Shoppers at the Saint Andrews Market in Downtown Dothan looked for homemade gifts through aisles of local vendors. Candles, teas and colorful clothing gave options to market visitors.
Shop owners said the Saturday after Thanksgiving allows people the option to stay away from overcrowded malls.
"It's a lot more comfortable, there's no crazy crowds or long lines across the buildings so we have them come in and enjoy some lunch, and a quiet atmosphere; a change of pace," market owner Kelly Handel said.
American Express coined "Small Business Saturday" in 2010. Each year, around 52 percent of what is made in local stores stays in the neighborhoods.
