Headland Shooting Suspect Identified

The peace and quiet on Main Street in Headland vanished Thursday when dozens of police officers swarmed in.

Police say a man armed with an assault rifle appeared to be breaking into a home. He has been identified as 27-year-old Braxton Morgan. He is being held in Henry County Jail on $312,000 bond.

When police arrived to the scene, they say the suspect began shooting.
No one was injured, and he was taken into custody within ten minutes. But the situation wasn't over. Authorities believed there could have been a second suspect.

Multiple law enforcement agencies from Henry and Houston counties responded to help in the search, but they didn't find any other suspects.

Headland Police Chief Mark Jones said, “We just want to thank all the agencies that responded to the call. We just definitely want to express our appreciations for their help. We can’t do our jobs without all of us working together. That was just a show of what this brotherhood is all about.”

Morgan has been charged with two counts of attempted murder, menacing and obstructing government operations.

Headland Police said they have been called to Morgan’s home before, but only for minor issues.
