Some Wiregrass students are getting a little more prep time before they hit high school.
Headland Middle School has started a 9th grade academy.
It's designed to help make the transition into high school more successful.
Administrators say before the program was implemented 20% of students failed at least half a credit.
Now, that number is down to 6%.
"I'm very proud of my students I feel like a sense of responsibility a lot of them call me the 9th grade mama," said La'keisha Newsome, 9th grade assistant principal.
Headland's 9th grade academy is in its third year.
