Two of the festival’s biggest events took place on Monday night.

The calf scramble and the greased pig have been a part of the festival since the 1950’s. 20 participants between the ages of 13 and 18 went after 10 pigs.

Prior event participants say that it is hard to catch a pig normally, but catching a greased pig is just plain tough.

“What you do is just catch the pig, drag the pig, whatever you have to do to get the pig across the line, that’s how you do it. We have had several young ladies just pick up a pig and take it across the line so we have some tough girls out there,” said Merritt Carothers of the Beef Cattle Industry.

As many as 3,500 people were expected to be at the greased pig and calf scramble tonight.
