UPDATE July 23, 2014, 3:25 p.m:

David Hall will not challenge the results of last week's runoff election for Geneva County Sheriff. Tony Helms defeated Hall by nine votes for the seat, and results were certified on Tuesday.

Due to the slim margin of victory, Hall could've chosen to contest the results and receive a recount of votes cast. However, Hall decided on Wednesday not to challenge the results, bringing and end to the election.

Helms will replace longtime Sheriff Greg Ward, who chose not to run for another term.

Last Tuesday's runoff election for Geneva County Sheriff was certified today. You may remember, Chief Deputy Tony Helms defeated Alabama Beverage Control Agent David Hall, by seven votes.

Today, four provisional ballots were counted. Three went to Helms and one to Hall, extending his lead to nine.

Hall now has until 12:30 pm this Thursday, to decide if he'll request a recount.
