Gen Con is the largest gaming convention in the world. Gaming as in gamers, not gamblers.
That means people will leave town saying they saw it first in Indianapolis.
And Jake Theis, marketing manager of Gen Con says from Thursday through Sunday, record numbers of gamers will be spending millions of dollars.
Chris Gahl, of the Indianapolis Convention and Visitors Association, says without the convention center expansion, Gen Con might have moved elsewhere. Instead it's agreed to come back every year until at least 2020.
Local businesses reap the rewards. For the first time, Gen Con has an official beer. Indianapolis based Sun King Brewing is making it... "the ale of destiny."
And Gen Con gamers won't be alone.
Also in town are fans of Moto GP, Blake Shelton for his concert, Indy Fringe and the state fair. Total take, is estimated at $150 Million dollars. Nothing to laugh at.
