Traditionally, comic books are the realm of superheroes, but a colorful group of mares and fillies are dominating the comic book sales charts after release of its first issue.
News 4 previously reported on the high pre-release demand for IDW’s first issue of the comic book, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.
The comic is based on the Hasbro animated series of the same name. That series has grown a loyal, dedicated fanbase of adult fans along with the target audience of young girls.
The first issue passed its previously-reported ninety thousand pre-order mark and shot past a hundred thousand, requiring a second printing of the comic.
These numbers surpassed pre-orders for two of the massive relaunches of DC and Marvel Comics—which include decades-popular heroes like Superman, Batman, and The Avengers.
There were reports via Twitter of fans waiting over an hour for artist and writer Katie Cook to autograph the issue at one comic shop event celebrating the release.
After the successful launch, a spin-off comic series focusing on an individual character was announced by IDW.
In addition, Cook will be appearing at one of the many My Little Pony conventions planned for 2013, the Big Apple Ponycon.
