A century-old abandoned school in the Western Wiregrass may soon have an entirely new educational mission.

Except for an occasional community event, the old Florala Middle School has been closed for nearly a decade.

Except for an occasional community event, the old Florala Middle School has been closed for nearly a decade.

Recently, an unnamed group approached city officials about making it a vocational training facility.

It could create needed jobs for southern Covington and northern Walton counties.
