Fla. Forest Service Giving Away Trees on Arbor Day

WALTON COUNTY, FL -On Friday, January 25th, in conjunction with the annual Chautauqua Assembly, the Florida Forest Service will be giving away trees to the general public to commemorate Arbor Day.

The trees will be in one-gallon containers and will be free of charge and available from 7 AM til 4 PM at Camp Conservation in the Walton County Fairgrounds parking lot located on Highway 83 North about one mile north of Highway 90 in DeFuniak Springs. (DeFuniak Springs is the city where Arbor Day in Florida was originated.)

The types of trees that will be given away this year are Black Cherry, Chalk Maple, Turkey Oak, and Eastern Red Cedar. Please limit one tree per person. (A family of four for example can get 4 trees.)

Foresters with the Florida Forest Service will also be on hand to offer free advice such as planting and care as well.

Florida Forest Service personnel will also have an exhibit inside the fairgrounds also as part of Camp Conservation and the Chautauqua Assembly. The exhibit will be set up all weekend-Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, January 25th, 26th, and 27th.
